Auditions are held in February, preferably on scholarship audition day which takes place on the Saturday before President's Day each spring. A fundamentals of music examination will be given before or after the auditionee's scheduled audition time depending on their personal schedule for the day. The steps outlined at the link provided below must all be completed before a student can audition for a music major or minor at UCM and be considered for a scholarship.
A list of audition expectations are provided below. Auditionees may choose their own specific repertoire, though it is encouraged that the chosen pieces be appropriate for the player's ability level. It is preferred that we listen to a great performance of less difficult repertoire than an average performance of music that is too difficult. UCM will not provide an accompanist, though the auditionee can bring one if they desire; Alex Smith must be notified in advance should an auditionee plan to do so. Each audition will last 12 minutes, therefore it is requested that auditionees move quickly between the pieces they have prepared. Auditionees are expected to provide their own sticks, mallets, and music; it is recommended that they also provide at least one additional copy of the music they will perform for the faculty audition panel to view.
Please check back soon for information regarding spring help sessions and audition dates! Audition materials for the 2018 season will be posted here in January.
